Planning a pre-wedding engagement photo shoot with your sweetheart and your photographer? An engagement shoot is a fun way to get to know your photographer (and for them to get to know you), and a chance for you and your spouse-to-be to have a little fun in front of the camera. Here are some quick engagement photo shoot tips from photographers:
Location, location, location. Find a place with lots of setting and background options, and don’t be afraid to be creative. Parks, city streets, small shops, or farms are fun and popular places to do engagement photo shoots. (Just make sure you have permission to be there and take pictures.) Think about your history: What places are important to you as a couple? Where do you love to go?
Be yourself. Try to act as natural as possible! If you’re worried about feeling stiff, do something for your photo shoot like walking along the beach, going berry picking, or browsing an antique store. You’ll provide your photographer with more unguarded moments if you’re relaxed. If you love your pets, ask about including them in your shoot! Or, work in your hobbies or shared interests.
Dress the part. Don’t just throw on any old thing and walk out the door. Think about your wardrobe. Do your outfits coordinate (but not match) each other? Do they fit with the location where you’re getting your photos taken? Also, take the time to do your hair and makeup. If you haven’t yet, this could be a good time to try out the salon and makeup artist you might want to hire for your wedding day.
Have fun! It’s OK to be silly, to talk to your partner, even to kiss or snuggle. Relax – you’re the star!
