If you’re planning a destination wedding or honeymoon on the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, you’re no doubt concerned about how the oil spill in the Gulf will impact your plans. There’s no doubt it’s affecting some couples’ plans – NPR reported last week about a beach wedding planner who is losing business because worried brides are canceling or altering their plans. What should you do? First, call your wedding or honeymoon site and ask what kind of shape their beach is in. You’ll get the best answer from someone who is on the ground at your location. Second, if you’re not happy with the answer, ask about cancellation policies and penalties. Destination Wedding magazine reports that some hotels have special policies and programs because of the oil spill. Third, if you’re really worried, start working on a Plan B. Even if you don’t have to use it, you’ll be glad it’s there.
