Tips from the Bride
  • A wedding is a union between two people - don't leave your significant other out of the planning details. Plan together and may even save yourself some stress.
  • Include your family and friends in your decision making, allow them to help you, and value their opinions...but remember that you cannot please everyone.
  • Four inch heels + 20 lb. dress + lots of dancing x lots of champagne = sore feet and lower back pain...do yourself a favor and opt for the 2 inch heels, or even lower if you can bear it.
  • Everyone says this, but it's really great advice---just RELAX! If you're stressed, it shows, and no one wants to see a frowning bride with her brows furrowed and a worried look in her eyes.

August 23 , 2003

I arrive at Olde Breton Inn early to try and get a sneak peek of the facilities since I have never visited and I find Kara and her mother sorting through the various flower bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres. She is in jeans and a shirt and has had her hair done and make-up applied and looks radiant. She seems calm making last minute preparations before the guests start to arrive.

Olde Breton Inn (circa 1793) will host both the ceremony and reception for this special occasion. A large gazebo located on the grounds has the background of the river and will provide the backdrop for the official ceremony. Chairs are set up along with bamboo tiki lanterns which are lined on the outside of the chairs.

The Inn has a small dining room as you walk through the front door and will provide the area for hors devours of cheese, crackers and fruit. A separate area past the dining room and prior to the main dining area will serve as a buffet area for guests to serve themselves.

Kara's Wedding Day Vision

I had always wanted to have a beach wedding. When Anthony first proposed, I had visions of flying off with him to Bora Bora and eloping in some sort of South pacific paradise wearing little more than a bikini and a grin! Such was not to be, however, I'm very happy with the way things have turned out!

The tables are decorated with navy blue table cloths and ivory napkins. Favor boxes are gold and white pyramid-shaped and sealed with gold trimmed ribbon. They contain chocolates and are arranged at each seating. Glass centerpiece vases contain silver flower petals along with a candle and an ivory rose.

Kara shows me the bridal suite which is located upstairs. The room is beautifully decorated with white wicker furniture accented with floral pillow cushions. The walls are painted sage and the windows in white trim. The two rooms are separated with picture windows decorated with white sheer swags.

There is still an hour before the ceremony is to start. Bridesmaids are gathered inside the suite, talking amongst themselves, taking pictures with one another while examining the floral bouquets.

I see Anthony arrive in the parking lot and later hear that he sends a rose along with a card to Kara via one of the bridal attendants. Kara is touched by the gesture, cries happiness tears and is forced to reapply her make-up.

I wander downstairs below the main dining hall to find Anthony with fellow groomsmen. Each are experiencing their own challenge with their tuxedos and all of the accessories that came with them. The groom's mother takes turns pinning the ivory boutonnieres on to each jacket. They are all wearing black tuxedos with smokey blue vests, except Anthony who is wearing a white tie and vest with his tuxedo. The photographer arrives and takes the opportunity to capture the moment on film.

The ladies are wearing strapless midnight blue gowns. Kara's gown is strapless as well and is two-toned candelabra and beige. The cascading bouquets consist of shasta daisies and roses in pale pinks, blues and white. Kara has a cousin that is playing the role of wedding coordinator to help the ceremony to run smoothly.

The violinists are seated near the gazebo and begin to play a classic Bach tune. There is a slight breeze in the air and the temperature is warm and pleasant. All eyes are focused on the arrival of the bridesmaids who are escorted by the groomsmen and stroll as couples to their places at the gazebo.

Kara opts to forgo the traditional wedding march theme and is escorted by her grandfather where Anthony is waiting.

"...as a symbol of my everlasting love and devotion to you..."

The couple celebrated their honeymoon in Las Vegas - a surprise gift from Kara to Anthony who thought they were going to an amusement park.
