If you're invited to a bridal shower, you're not required to bring a gift. Most people do, and you might get stumped about what to buy or how much to spend. Etiquette guru Peggy Post says shower gifts don't need to be elaborate and should not cost as much as a wedding gift. Traditionally, shower gifts were handmade, so if you're crafty or artistic, follow your talents.
Often times, the host will tell you about a theme for the party when she sends the invitation. Let that theme guide your gift. (Hosts should include the couple's preferences, such as room colors or sizes, for themes involving room decorations or clothing.)
Lastly, think about the bride and your relationship with her. If you're attending a traditional shower, the focus is the bride rather than the couple, so you can tailor your gift to her. What would she like?
