I’ll be honest: I didn’t have a traditional shower when I got married. It’s just not my thing, and I really don’t like being the center of attention at parties. Instead, I spent a weekend in NYC with my mom, aunt, cousin and bridesmaids. We ate well, did girly things and visited the bakery/café from You’ve Got Mail, which is one of my favorite movies.
That being said, I have been to many wedding showers, and they have all been a lot of fun. There’s nothing like getting a group of women together to celebrate! And, there is lots of room for creativity in bridal shower planning these days. Not into the traditional shower games? No problem! There are lots of other fun games you can play. How about planning a party with a theme? You can really personalize your party to the bride’s interests and ask guests to bring gifts relating to that theme.
Another popular trend is the couples shower — that’s right, a bridal shower where the guys are invited. Host a cocktail party, barbecue or fancy dinner. Or, if your bride is like me, take your shower on the road. Plan a spa day or a girls’ day out.
No matter what you plan, the goal is the same: to get together and celebrate!
Friday: The “man shower.”
