Here’s what you need to know about Maegan and Austin’s country waterfront wedding: The bridesmaids wore cowboy boots, and the groomsmen wore flip flops. The footwear alone sets the tone for the kind of wedding day they couple was after: A laid-back, southern celebration on the water. Lots of family and friends. A real celebration that everyone would enjoy.
The couple, who married April 21, 2013, at Jefferson Patterson Park in Calvert County, were on the cover of the 2013-2014 edition of Southern Maryland Weddings. The exuberance of their wedding day comes through in photos shot by Starrella Photography.
Maegan and Austin were not afraid to buck tradition as they planned the details of their wedding day. Instead of a unity candle or sand ceremony, they nailed shut a wine crate that Austin had made for the occasion. Inside are love letters they wrote to each other, a bottle of wine, and a bottle of whiskey.
“It is only to be opened and its contents released during a time of extreme hardship and strain on our marriage,” Maegan explained. “If five years pass without the crate being opened, we will be able to open it and enjoy the letters we wrote to each other on the day we said ‘I do.’ After that, we will continue the tradition as we watch our marriage grow with time.”
