Real SoMd Wedding: A Handmade Community Celebration

A few key ideas guided Diana and Jordan as they planned their Oct. 2, 2011, wedding: Community, simple, and the outdoors. They chose the barn at Jefferson Patterson Park in Calvert County for their wedding, and invited their friends and family to contribute to a potluck dinner. Family and friends contributed their talents for the invitations, guest book, cake, and flowers. The bride wore a borrowed gown accented by Kelly green sash, and the bridesmaids wore handmade dresses from Etsy.

Jordan’s most memorable moment came after the toasts were made: His new wife serenaded him on guitar, accompanied by her friend Greta on violin. “This took me entirely by surprise because Diana doesn’t play guitar,” Jordan said. “She had been practicing in secret for months so she could play for me at our wedding! It was incredible.”

And, instead of exchanging rings, Jordan and Diana had rings tattooed onto their fingers during the ceremony!
