Q. I grew up in St. Mary's County and recently relocated to VA. My soon-to-be husband and I want to get married outside in October. We are planning on 250-275 people, and I want to have it in a place that will show all of our out-of-town guests the beauty of St. Mary's. Do you have any suggestions?

Q. I am planning an adults-only evening wedding. I mailed out my invitations with the invited person(s) name on the envelope. I've gotten back several RSVP cards with the childrens' names included as attending. What should I do? Is it rude to call and say the children can't come?.

A. No, you're within your rights to do so. Most people have forgotten the old etiquette rule that the invitation is only for those addressed on the envelope. You can also consider asking your mother to make the call. No matter who calls, gently explain that it's an adult-only reception and tell them why. Some people are going to be offended, and some might even decide not to come, especially if they are out of town -- the logistics will be complicated for someone with kids.
