My Birthday is August 10th, and my boyfriend of quite a few years, had sent me roses to work, endured a family dinner at my sister’s, and after trying to compete with my new puppy (Birthday gift from my Dad) came in with something behind his back. Hoping this wasn’t the way he was going to pop the question in my bedroom; I was reluctant to open the little card that was hiding behind his back. He made it on the computer and it was full of tropical pictures and a photo-edited picture of us on a beach. Inside the card was a little poem and the word “SURPRISE!”
After expressing my confusion, he explained we would be going on a Surprise trip Labor Day Weekend, but wouldn’t tell me where. I spent the next 3 weeks guessing of different places, some exotic, some not, building up lots of anticipation. He kept true to his word, only told me I’d need “beachy attire” and sundresses, but still NEVER told me where we were going. I literally didn’t find out until we were at the airport and when asked our destination, he had no choice but to say, Mexico!
As if the exotic country of Mexico weren’t enough, we soon pulled up to an AMAZING resort, The Grand Porto Real in Playa del Carmen. This resort was something you only see on TV. It was absolutely gorgeous, ocean front, with pools, swim up bars, hammocks on each balcony, beds on the beach, just an amazing atmosphere. But, still I was in for more surprises. When we went up to our room there was a GORGEOUS suite overlooking the Mexican Riviera and white sand. The room was all marble with pillars, a king size bed, Jacuzzi overlooking the beach. Everything was like a dream.
We ended the day laying on the beach followed by a romantic dinner and then to bed. But, Aaron asked, and was very persistent about watching the sunrise the next morning and set the alarm. Around 6 am I felt him tossing and turning, my not-so-much-the-morning guy was up before me ready to watch the sunset. I sleepily got up and joined him on our balcony. It was a little cloudy, so the sky had made a crimson, pink color and was absolutely beautiful. We watched the sky change color, sun peak out and listened to the ocean, enjoying each other’s company.
When the sky had just opened up, Aaron turned to face me and said, “How we feel today, is how I feel everyday with you. I want to feel like this for the rest of my life. You’re like the sunshine beating down on my face.” Then he got down on one knee, took my hand in his, kissed it, (by now I’m crying/laughing/shaking/just overcome with joy) and he said, “Will you marry me?” as he took the ring out of his pocket and opened the box. It was just priceless! I managed to shout out, “OF COURSE!!!!!!!” I leaped into his arms to squeeze him as tight as I possibly could. We stood there full of emotions for a few moments when Aaron pulled away from me and said, “Don’t you want to see your ring?” I completely forgot about that part. Although the ring is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, his words meant one-hundred times more to me than any amount of money he spent on the ring! |
