Every year, the color experts at Pantone choose a Color of the Year. Part trend watching and part direction for the future of design, the Color of the Year is often tuned into current events or the mood of the country and the world.
“The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design,” says Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute. “It’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.”
This year’s color, Ultra Violet, follows the bold path paved over the last several years by Greenery (2017), Marsala (2015), Radiant Orchid (2014), and Tangerine Tango (2012). It’s a rich, almost mysterious shade of purple. Pantone calls Ultra Violet “provocative,” “enigmatic,” and “mystical.”
And if you’re planning a wedding, the drama of Ultra Violet could be exactly what you’re looking for to set your day apart from the rest. This shade works well in all seasons and it is gender neutral. Plus, Ultra Violet pairs well with muted shades and holds its own alongside bright, bold colors.
