As evidenced by this story from a few weeks back, you’ve probably guessed that I like hearing strange engagement stories. Here’s another one for the books. Don Walling had a romantic proposal planned for his girlfriend, Gina Pellicani: dinner out with family and friends and a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge‘s pedestrian walkway. Dinner went great, they go walking, Walling gets down on one knee to propose … and the ring falls out of the box onto the road below. By the time Walling got to it — after convincing a suicide prevention squad he didn’t want to jump — it had been run over. The ring is being fixed — the stones survived; the band was damaged — and the couple is back to planning their wedding.
And yes, they got the whole thing on video.
