Dear Readers,

Bridal show season is winding down and wedding service providers are preparing for the busy wedding season. This is crunch time for most brides planning a spring and summer wedding. For our Dream Wedding couple, Brian & Katrina Rosa - now's the time to breathe easy. Brian and Katrina celebrated their nuptials last month and we tagged along! Stay tuned for their complete story which we will be featuring soon.

Speaking of features - we want to feature you! We told you in our last newsletter we revamped the REAL Southern Maryland Weddings section of our website to allow you to send us pictures and the story of your wedding day. So don't forget about us after you're married! Be sure to keep those pictures handy too - for our annual Cover Picture Contest! Help us spread the word to brides you know that have been recently married in Southern Maryland. Our 2006 Cover Picture Contest has officially started. But tell them to hurry - we're only accepting entries until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2006.

Help us find out more about what you're looking for from the wedding industry. We're taking our annual SoMdWeddings.com survey. Help us complete our survey about your wedding and you will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Gift Certificate to BridalEverything.com. We've recently redesigned our sister e-commerce site which carries lots of wedding favors, decorations and accessories. We're adding new items daily so be sure to check it out.

Finally, we started the Southern Maryland Wedding Guide magazine to act as a resource guide for local couples planning a wedding in Southern Maryland. Help us to keep our directory up to date. If you contact a vendor on our list and the information we have is incorrect or the telephone is disconnected, please send us a quick e-mail and let us know. We want to be able to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Wedding Trends. If there is anything you would like us to research or include in an upcoming article, let us know.

Sincerely,

Kimberly Bean

Welcome baskets for out-of-town guests

Make them feel welcome when coming to town for your wedding. Create welcome baskets with a Southern Maryland flair.

Most summer "weekend weddings" include casual gatherings leading up to the actual wedding for couples to spend time with their guests. Budget permitting, plan a casual crab feast at home. Use a mini bushel basket and fill it with items popular to Southern Maryland like: Old Bay Seasoning, a recipe for steamed blue crabs or shrimp, a crab mallot, plastic bib, and maybe some tourism brochures for the Southern Maryland region.

For kids, add crayons, a coloring book, a beach shovel, and some goodies.

Ask the Wedding Planner

Q. What do you do if you can't reach the place where you want to have the reception? I have called and reached them and recieved information from them; however, to keep me sane I am trying to get a deposit and contract on this place for our date that was available when I talked to them, and since I cannot reach this place, I need some advice on what to do? - Submitted by a Bride from Charles County.

Our $.02
Fax, e-mail or mail a letter if you have the information. Explain that you are interested in reserving a date and ask what you should do to proceed. Something else to consider - if they aren't returning your phone calls, how receptive will they be in the days leading up to and on your wedding day?
