Dear
Readers,
Happy New Year! And congratulations to those of you recently engaged over the holidays! Whether you've just started your wedding planning process or nearing the big day, you may be feeling a little overwhelmed at what lies ahead. I always like to give brides the following advice: Don't forget about what is most important. You are making a commitment of sharing a lifetime with someone, which is truly a blessed event. We know - you've dreamed of how your wedding day would be - from the style of your wedding dress to the little details that will make it memorable. Just don't let yourself get so bogged down with every little detail of your wedding day, that you miss out on what's most important. Every bride has a story about their wedding day and most will tell you that it didn't go exactly as planned. Hopefully, they will also tell you that it was still beautiful and that what was most important was that they were able to share the celebration of their blessed union with their loved ones.
One of the second pieces of advice that I like to give is to plan early! You can avoid a lot of stress simply by getting yourself organized, planning early, and learning to delegate. 1) Start with a notebook or wedding planning book to guide you. 2) Pick up a copy of The Southern Maryland Wedding Guide and be sure to visit our website at SoMdWeddings.com (after all we've done a lot of the legwork for you!) 3) Plan to attend local bridal shows to meet vendors in person and to give you some ideas, and 4) Get your ceremony and reception site locations booked! You will be amazed at just how much you can reduce your stress levels simply by accomplishing these first planning tasks. Finally, recruit the help of your bridal attendants, family and friends by giving them little tasks to help lighten the load. And as most brides tell us - get your fiancé involved.
We can help with step 3 above! The first quarter of the year means its bridal show season and the first bridal show of the year is this Sunday at the J.T. Daugherty Conference Center in Lexington Park. Read more below about this show and how you can get the most out of attending bridal shows from our article Why Attend Bridal Shows. Then, stay tuned to SoMdWeddings.com for other events posted on our bridal events calendar, like our $25,000 Dream Wedding Giveaway!
Happy Planning!

Why Attend Bridal Shows?
By Cori Meloney
There’s no easier way to meet lots of vendors in every category than a bridal show. The organizers have already done the legwork for you -- they’ve chosen some of each type of service provider and put them in one room. All you have to do is start asking questions.
Plan to attend more than one show in your area because different vendors will be invited to each and some shows are limited to one of each type of service provider.
