Dear
Readers,
It's hard to believe it's already August. Hopefully you've had a chance to pick up a copy of the Summer Edition of our Southern Maryland Wedding Guide magazine. If you haven't, click here to find out where you can pick up a copy. We made the first announcement in this issue about our annual Bridal Show "A Bridal Affair" which will be held next year at the Waldorf Jaycees Community Center on Sunday, February 25, 2007. We're already making plans (yes, it's 6 months away) but when you're planning to give away... uh hum ... a $25,000 Dream Wedding, it's never too soon to start! That's right, with the help of local wedding service providers we're giving away another wedding to one lucky couple. Be sure to stay tuned for complete details to come on a website we're building especially for this exciting event! (Click here for an excerpt from our magazine on this year's Dream Wedding.)
Next year we're also planning some new types of wedding events. For many couples, their upcoming wedding may be their first. Since most couples only rehearse the evening before their wedding, they may not actually know what to expect the day of the wedding at the wedding reception. We are planning a new event that we're calling the "Wedding Rehearsal" to help couples prepare for their actual wedding reception. We'll teach you a bit about etiquette and give you tips on how to be a good host & hostess at your wedding. We're planning to do two of these in the Spring, one to be held in St. Mary's County and the other in Prince George's County. Stay tuned for more details!
Just a reminder, we're adding new resources to our website daily so be sure to check it often at www.SoMdWeddings.com. Wedding service providers in the Southern Maryland region are including their businesses in our directory and new wedding trends articles are added weekly. (Check the home page every Friday for new listings!) Tell us how we can improve our website. We're here to help make planning your Southern Maryland wedding easier.
Happy Planning!
Sincerely,

Kimberly Bean

Ask
the Wedding Planner
Q. I was thinking of trying to cut down on the cost of my wedding reception by doing a cash bar. Is this tacky? - Submitted by a
Bride from Charles County.
Our $.02
Yes. We know that weddings are expensive. But never - under any circumstance - should you ever consider hosting a cash bar at your reception. Ask yourself this question: Would you ever ask anyone to pay for a cocktail in your own home? People at your reception are still your guests, even if the event is not held in your house.
Instead, consider hosting a bar that serves beer and wine (often referred to as a soft bar). Some reception sites allow you to bring in your own alcohol; you can save a lot of money by doing this. Some bar catering services will say anything unopened can be returned for a full refund.
(Ask Ginny Crane with Big B Liquors.)
The best way to cut costs? Reduce the size of your guest list!
Create Your Own Photo Stamps
We love these! We shared with you how couples are including thank you posters in their wedding photo pictures. Later they have the photos made into thank you cards. Now you can go a step further by creating your own postage stamps with your wedding photos!
Go to http://photo.stamps.com and try it out yourself! You simply upload your image* (remember to keep it Rated G) and you can see what your stamp will look like. Then select the postage rate you want (i.e. standard envelope rates, postcard rates, etc), and select the number of stamps you wish to purchase (sold by the sheet) and place your order and pay for it. Then your order arrives in 3 to 5 business days. (Rush orders also available.)
You can create them for engagement announcements, wedding invitations, shower invitations and more. Have fun!
Be sure to read the terms and conditions here.*
