The celebrity wedding calendar has been full this summer, from former first daughter Chelsea Clinton to singer Alicia Keyes to actors Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. While most celebrity weddings are expensive affairs, don’t let that stop you from having your own celebrity wedding! Take inspiration from their attire, décor, stationary, and planners, and you’ll have your guests feeling like they just attended a Hollywood wedding! Here are five ideas to get you started.
Star Style
When former first daughter Chelsea Clinton married longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky recently, she wore a gorgeous Vera Wang gown with sweetheart neckline, crystal belt and layered A-line skirt. If you loved the dress, you can wait for the knock-offs to hit the racks, or you can start shopping now for something inspired by Chelsea’s gown. Look for a relatively simple bodice and a layered or ruffled skirt. Accent your waist with a rhinestone belt. Not into Chelsea’s dress? Take cues from your favorite star’s gowns while you’re shopping for your perfect dress. Mimic necklines, embellishments and skirt styles to achieve your star look.
Custom Invitations
Former Playboy playmate Kendra Wilkinson and NFL star Hank Baskett opted to stay away from cookie-cutter save-the-dates and wedding invitations when they married last year. Instead, they hired the folks at Paper Olive to design a custom package for them. The result is a pretty lavender set with stripes and flourishes. If you’d like custom invites, you can take two routes. The first option is to hire a graphic designer to make something for you that fits your wedding style and theme. Ask talented friends and family to help out or look for artists at graphic design firms or online at Etsy.com, where everything is handmade. Second, you can go the DIY route and make them yourself. We recently highlighted several simple ideas here.
Red Carpet Hair
You don’t need to browse through celebrity wedding photos to get hair inspiration – just pay attention to the red carpet the next time there’s a major award ceremony like the Oscars, Emmys, or Grammys. InStyle magazine offers this selection of 15 star styles that would look great going down the aisle. You’ll find everything from up- and down-dos for long hair to sleek styles for short hair.
Exclusive Venues
When stars marry, they often choose exclusive, exotic locations far from prying eyes. Private homes, historic estates, and tropical beaches are popular choices for celebrity couples. Here in Southern Maryland, you’ll find waterfront sites, historic mansions, and beautiful gardens for your Hollywood-style wedding.
Hire a (Locally) Famous Planner
The stars don’t plan their wedding days alone. They rely on well-known wedding planners like Colin Cowie, David Tutera, and Mindy Weiss to help bring their wedding dreams into reality. A local wedding planner can help you do the same – whether you’re marrying here in Southern Maryland or heading to a far-off destination for your wedding day. Get someone who knows your location and then tell them what inspires you and what you envision for your wedding day. A skilled planner can take your dreams and make them happen on your budget. (But still be sure to visit the Hollywood planners’ websites for inspiration!)
